Planning, Design, and Construction
The office of Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) serves as stewards for the Emory campus and physical environment by providing ongoing planning, design, and construction management services. Our professional staff of campus planners, project and program managers, interior and graphic designers, and landscape architect integrate their specialized areas of expertise to sustain and support the built environment in advancement of Emory’s core mission.
Service Groups
Campus Planning and Landscape Architecture
The Emory Planning Office enhances, sustains and optimizes the physical assets of the University land, spaces, and buildings. Through the Capital Improvement Process, (CIP), the Planning office provides analysis and context for informed decisioning making in support of Emory’s strategic framework, mission accomplishment, risk management and financial transparency. Out team of licensed architects, planners, designers, and landscape architects provide a full range of technical expertise necessary to preserve and enhance the distinct character and quality of Emory’s campuses and to address growth and change in an environmentally and fiscally responsible manner. Our Campus Planners coordinate and manage the design of all new-building, renovation, and landscape-hardscape projects on Emory’s campuses.

- Space Planning and Programming
- Pre-Planning including Project Scope, Budget, and Schedule for Large and Small Projects
- Space Studies and Feasibility Studies
- Landscape and Hardscape Design and Planning
- Architecture and Engineering Consultant Selection
- Design Phase Management of Large and Small Projects
- Coordination and Management of Project Submissions to Emory’s Formal Financial and Design Review Processes
Capital Improvements and Renewals (Project Management)
This team includes professional project managers who oversee execution and delivery of capital improvements, capital renewals, and deferred maintenance projects under $2,000,000. A capital improvement is any construction addition or interior renovation project whereas capital renewals and deferred maintenance construction are replacements to building sub-systems that are at the end of their useful life and need to be replaced. The project managers work across all Emory University campuses. Their combined professional expertise provides innovative stewardship to maximize cooperation between the project owner, design teams, builders, cross-functional Emory partners, and local building authorities. The project managers maintain budget reports, oversee overall construction schedules, and administer contracts. Many of our project managers are LEED Accredited Professionals and further implement sustainable practices into their projects. .

- Develop Conceptual Cost Estimates
- Create Scopes of Work, Invitation to Bids and Award Work
- Contract Execution and Oversight
- Permitting and Building Code Management
- Oversee Construction Execution
- Coordinate Hazmat (EHSO), Voice and Data (OIT), Furniture, and Specialty Equipment
- Building Warranty Assistance
- Oversee the E&G, Oxford, Housing, and Utilities Major Repair and Replacement (MR&R) Program
Capital Construction (Program Management)
This team includes professional program managers who oversee execution and delivery of capital construction projects over $2,000,000. Capital construction is any construction addition or interior renovation project. The program managers work across all Emory University campuses. Their combined professional expertise provides innovative stewardship to maximize cooperation between the project owner, design teams, builders, cross-functional Emory partners, and local building authorities. Interior Design
Our team of professional interior designers provides comprehensive interior design services ensuring and promoting the health safety, and welfare of interior environments, while enhancing the unique quality of Emory's spaces. Our team provides code-compliant, accessible, and inclusive interior environments, utilizing a broad knowledge of interior space planning, interior building materials and finishes, casework, furniture, furnishings, and equipment.

- Furniture Planning, Design, Selection, Specification, and Procurement
- Construction and Installation Phase Services
Graphic Design
Our team of professional Graphic Designers provide comprehensive graphic design services to the Emory community. Graphic Design services are available independently or in connection to renovation and construction projects and includes planning, environmental graphics, and mapping.
