About the Emory Department of Public Safety

The Department of Public Safety provides administrative oversight for the Emory Police Department, Emory Fire Safety, and Emory Emergency Medical Service in the provision of safety and security services to the Emory community. The Assistant Vice President for Public Safety also serves as the Emory coordinator for the federal Clery Act compliance program.

Emory Police Department

The Emory Police Department (EPD) provides complete law enforcement services to the Emory community which includes the Emory Campus, Midtown Campus, and Oxford College campus. EPD works in conjunction with the DeKalb County Police, the Atlanta Police, the City of Oxford Police, and other law enforcement agencies to provide law enforcement services to the greater Emory community.  EPD also provide management oversight for electronic security systems (access control, alarms, and CCTV systems) and physical facility security services utilized within the university setting.

Emory Emergency Medical Services

Emory EMS (EEMS) provides emergency medical services for the Emory campus. EEMS is the first and only collegiate EMS service in Georgia. As an all-volunteer organization, staffed primarily by students, they provide 24/7 emergency medical care during the Fall and Spring semesters.  In addition, EEMS provides an in-house EMT course and CPR/First-Aid programs for the community.

Fire Safety Division

The Division of Fire Safety provides fire safety services to the Emory, Oxford, and Grady area campuses. The Director of Fire Safety oversees the provision of community education programs, fire drills and evacuation planning, safety inspections, new construction planning review, and fire protection system maintenance.
